Getting started

Your introduction to the Lulu Linux alpha desktop.

What is Lulu?

Lulu is a Linux-first Wayland compositor written in Rust using Smithay 0.7.0. It provides column-based tiling, floating workspaces, vertical workspace navigation, and custom desktop visuals.

Booting Lulu

The development project has produced a Linux Live ISO that boots directly into Lulu. A current public download URL and release instructions have not yet been verified for this documentation, so this site does not present a potentially incorrect download button.

Before sharing an ISO publicly, confirm the latest image boots, keyboard and pointer input work, and the integrated desktop behaves correctly.

First actions

  1. Launch a terminal using Super + T in the verified development configuration.
  2. Open additional applications to see Lulu’s column-based tiling.
  3. Use Super + J to toggle a focused column’s full-width state.
  4. Use Super + left mouse drag to move a window in the verified normal drag path.

Shortcuts may be customized. Always consult your installed Lulu configuration for the definitive mapping.
